Notes from our 3/25/10 Meeting

–Thanks to the Parish of Our Lady of Good Counsel for allowing our Neighborhood Group to use their church space for our meeting.

–Thanks to everyone for coming to the 3/25 meeting. 25 people in attendance.

–Thanks also to the 2 Methuen Police Officers (Officer Farrell & Ltn. Jajuga) who attended, 3 representatives from Martineau's Towing, and our 2 West District City Councilors (Jeanne Pappalardo & Jim Hajjar).

–We had a productive conversation with Martineau's Towing about noise problems and speeding trucks. They agreed to work with the Neighborhood Group and the police in our efforts to reduce the amount of noise pollution from motorcycles. They said it isn't their people causing the noise problems...but they will spread the word. As well, they will tell their drivers to slow down.

-We talked about keeping an eye out for drug dealing and other suspicious activity and to notify police if we see anything (9-1-1 for emergencies, 978-983-8677 for non-emergencies or to ask questions, or 978-983-8794 to reach the Drug Hotline).

–Freddy talked about the youth of the neighborhood thinking about forming a KLEAN Team (Kids Loving Earth And Nature) this summer to keep the neighborhood clean. He talked about showing movies in a backyard or maybe at the church and the admission fee for the movie would be a full bag of trash picked up from the street.

-We discussed the possibility of having a Yield or Stop sign installed at Madison & Hemenway. Officer Farrell will look into that.

-Officer Farrell said he'd make sure there is a sign at the corner of Haverhill Street & Elm Street saying "No Parking from here to corner"...since it is very difficult taking a left turn on to Haverhill Street from Elm, especially when cars are parked in the sight line.

–We discussed location options for constructing a playground for the neighborhood within walking distance. Riverside Park was discussed as an option as well as possible abandoned properties. Council Hajjar will explore this.

–We discussed the status of the abandoned Glen Forest Cleaners property and it being a significant safety hazard. It is being used as a dump for tires, TV's, etc. Councilors Pappalardo & Hajjar will look into it. (Note: A couple days after our meeting, Councilor Pappalardo informed me that she called the health dpt. about the property. They informed her that the owner lives in Andover. She will continue to work with Brian LaGrasse from the Health Dpt. on this. DPW ended up cleaning up the site and removing 23 old tires! There are still 30-40 cans of paint on a pallet in the rear of the cleaners that need to be addressed.)

-Upcoming neighborhood events are the May 8th Neighborhood Cleanup (starts at 10am w/cookout at Tenney at 12:30pm) and the May 30th Block Party on Caswell Ave. (4pm-7pm with brief neighborhood mtg. at 5pm).

–Meeting adjourned at 7:30pm

Sincerely,
Chris C-P

Hi Chris,

I am not yet a member of the website and I stopped at the church tonight before knowing the meeting was canceled. I was hoping to connect directly with you some time this week regarding a neighborhood concern; what is the best way to connect?

Hi Chris,
Timing is everything. I just happen to have a plumber here doing some work for us. Deb is happy we are getting a gas stove installed. The name of the Plumber is Andover Plumbing and Heating. Phone number is 1-800-301-3642. Hope this helps, Frank.

Hi Chris,
I use Shane Ash, Plumbing & Heating and his number is 978-479-4456. He is very reliable, reasonable prices, and he lives off of Elm St. He is the person who replaced my sewer pipe. He also has a network of people: electrician, handyman, etc.
If you give him a call just let him know that you are from the Cypress Neighborhood group, as I have told him that I was giving out his number to the group.

Alice called me and said she has a good friend who is very reasonable, does really good work. She highly recommends him. He has been doing plumbing work for her for years. His cell number is 978-502-1280.
